Based on Feng Nong's 风弄 novel that has been translated to A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting To Be Appreciated, General and I 孤芳不自赏 tells the story of a brilliant warrior who has never lost a battle and his muse, a woman of unrivaled intelligence earning the title female Zhu Ge (a genius strategist during the Three Kingdoms era).
Sadly, the star-crossed lovers' disparate positions put them at odds with each other at a time when the four warring states of Jin, Yan, Liang and Qin are in constant turmoil.
The cast is led by Wallace Chung, Angelababy, Sun Yi Zhou and Gan Ting Ting. I have always liked Wallace Chung since his younger days and call me impressed that he is still snagging commendable roles at the age of 41. Angelababy plays his love interest though I hope it's not a repeat of Song in the Clouds, which despite the hype fell very flat. Filming began recently and is expected to be released in 2017 on Hunan TV.
